The Austrian Open, also known as the Generali Open after its sponsor, is a clay court event held in Kitzbühel, Austria. The tournament which traces its history back to the 1890s is presently an ATP World Tour 250 event. Previous winners of the Generali Open have included clay court specialists like Guillermo Vilas, Thomas Muster and Albert Costa as well as serve-and-volleyers like Pete Sampras and Goran Ivanisevic. Kitzbühel is more renowned today as one of Europe’s foremost ski resorts which combined with the charms of its medieval centre makes it an attractive tourist destination.
