The next stop in our series on US music festivals to watch this summer is one of the most famous music events in the world- Bonnaroo.
13th June to 16th June, 2019
Great Stage Park, Manchester, United States
From the time it started in 2002, the Bonnaroo Music Festival has grown to become one of the staples of the US music festival calendar. The event, which attracts nearly 100,000 fans every year, was named one of the “50 Moments That Changed Rock & Roll” by Rolling Stone magazine and “Festival of the Decade” by Consequence of Sound and among the 10 Best Festivals by GQ Magazine. In 2008, it was named “Best Festival” by Rolling Stone magazine which called it “the ultimate over-the-top summer festival”.
Over the years Bonnaroo has served as a kind of training ground for bands to return again and again. Kings of Leon, for example, has played there three times before.
This year’s headliners include big names like Phish, Childish Gambino, Solange, The National, Cardi B, Post Malone, Hozier, and more. Phish will play a late-evening set on Friday, June 14 and again on Sunday, June 16 with a festival-closing two-set show. Bonnaroo 2019 also offers an eclectic mix of past Bonnaroo favorites in the world of jam and Americana alongside more contemporary hip-hop and electronic acts.
The annual four-day camping fest will be held in Manchester, Tennessee (about 60 miles southeast of Nashville) at its usual home of the Great Stage, a 700-acre farm and event space. From the famous Bonnaroo Arch at the entrance to Centeroo to the always cool Bonnaroo Fountain, Bonnaroo is covered in colorful landmarks that change ever so slightly to keep things interesting from year to year. There is also a ton of food and activities such as parades, Yoga-Roo, The Sketchbook Project (where you can collaborate with fellow Bonnaroovians), and obviously a shit ton of music.
Another exciting addition to this edition of the festival will be the Pride Parade.
