Now here comes a once in a ‘blues’ moon opportunity to let your guard down and get grooving! The Mahindra Blues Festival is coming back to town just in time to perk you up as the dust begins to settle on your New Year festivities. The ninth edition of what is touted to be Asia’s largest Blues celebration is set to captivate listeners in Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios on February 9 & 10, 2019. The festival has been at the forefront of the Blues music scene in India and has brought international legends like Keb Mo, Coco Montoya, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker Jr. and Taj Mahal, among others to Maximum City. And in keeping with tradition, the Mahindra Blues Festival 2019 lineup also boasts of stellar names that will make you sway to their soulful tunes.

Beth Hart

The list begins with Grammy nominated singer Beth Hart who is currently riding a creative high after a successful 2018. Not only did she release her chart topping album ‘Black Coffee’ early this year, she was also nominated at the Blues Music awards for the fifth year in a row and then ultimately won in the ‘Instrumentalist – Vocals’ category. 2019 is a tour-packed year for Hart with her first performance of the year scheduled at the Mahindra Blues festival.

Charlie Musselwhite

With fifty years of touring behind him, Charlie’s music, like wine, has only bettered with time. At 71, the Grammy award winner is still churning out music that is magic to the ears. He has earned 33 Blues Music awards, 11 Grammy nominations including the 2014 win for best blues album; all these are well-deserved accolades as he continues to strive to keep the old school blues music alive with his harp and harmonicas. We can only hope he brings out his harmonica and plays us some of his chartbusters at the festival.

Sugaray Rayford

At 49 years old, the 6’5”singer and songwriter has recently released his fourth album. Sugaray Rayford’s immense talent is evident from the fact that he was nominated for four awards at the annual Blues music awards 2018. His traditional vocal style and graceful dance steps bring back the old world charm of the Blues and his concerts always turn into celebrations of music, dance and life itself. His old school style reminds you of legends like Muddy Waters and Otis Redding. We are looking forward to seeing him break into some of his famous moves while we try to keep up with his vibrant and infectious energy.

Brandon Santini

Another headliner at the festival, Brandon Santini is being pegged as one of the modern Blues artists who are shaping the future of the genre. He has often been compared to legends James Cotton and Paul Butterfield owing to the similarity in styles of playing the harmonica. Santini’s multiple nominations at the Blues Music awards and the Blues Blast award speak volumes about the fantastic vibes that the artist brings to his craft and we are hoping to catch a glimpse of it first hand at the festival.

Arinjoy Trio

If the line-up seems too western to you, fret not! The Indian representation on the artist front is in the safe hands of the Arinjoy Trio. The winner of the Mahindra Blues Band Hunt 2018 is a union of three like-minded musical souls comprising of guitarist Arinjoy Sarkar, drummer Sounak Roy and bass player Aakash Ganguly. This talented trio will return to the festival as performers and we are excited to see the energy and soul that they bring to the stage.

The Mahindra Blues Festival 2019 lineup looks incredible and with such great performances lined up, the tickets will be selling out like hot cakes.
