Hi, my name is Julia; I am an art historian, freelance researcher, a bespoke provider of art and history related experiences in London. I previously worked as a Collection Research Assistant at the Tate and I am now hosting one of the most successful Art Experiences in London.
Housed in the building of a former power station, Tate Modern is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the world. It ranks first in the list of London’s Top 10 attractions and fifth globally, hosting 6 million visitors a year.
It is not uncommon to feel both intrigued and confused by a piece of contemporary art. Allow me to guide you through the galleries of Tate Modern on a curious inquiry into what we see, and hopefully, during the 2 hours that we spend together, you will acquire the skills of looking, seeing and talking about art.

What we see in art is always influenced by a whole host of assumptions. When we see a piece of art, we are not just looking; we are reading the language of images, be it Monet’s Waterlilies or a feminist sculpture. Instead of lecturing you using a list of dry biographical facts, I would like to encourage you to trust your own eyes and instincts and think of art in front of you in a more personal way.
