Jim the volunteer curator was absolutely fantastic. So knowledgeable and friendly and really made the experience something to remember. Whilst the audio tour is good there is no substitute for his stories and historical knowledge. He even gave us a tour of the buildings on site in his own time after missing the last scheduled tour. He is a credit to the team and we would thoroughly recommend a visit here. The painted hall is magnificent and the chapel is a sight to see in it's own right. Brilliant day out!

Fascinating tour through the Old Royal Naval College grounds and buildings by our knowledgeable and witty guide, who brought this remarkable World Heritage Site to life for us. We were regaled with stories about the old hospital for seamen, the funeral procession of Nelson and numerous anecdotes about the international film industry’s obsession with this beautiful monument to Sir Christopher Wren’s architectural genius as a location. The piece de resistance is where the tour ends: the absolutely breathtaking Painted Hall, which title belies its majesty, splendour and sheer artistic alchemy. Do not miss this astounding immersion into British history.

We had an absolutely amazing time at the Old Royal Naval College. We started in the Painted Hall with a fantastic and informative tour from Jim and then Jim kindly offered to take the group on the 500 Years of History tour as we missed the last scheduled tour for that day. We would highly recommend taking this tour as it provided a lot interesting information about the grounds that only someone with detailed knowledge about the site would know. It really helped us to see the site in a new way. Jim is clearly so passionate about this amazing place of history and it truly made our visit here something we will always remember. It was definitely worthwhile to spend the money to see the Painted Hall, to take a tour, and to support this amazing landmark!

Jim was very knowledgeable and friendly. He provided a 5* tour with a lot of interesting historical information about the different sites, paintings, etc. In an almost storytelling fashion he made everything really easy to digest.

Everybody should visit this incredible Hall, it certainly has the wow factor and left our group of 4 in absolute awe. We have never seen anything so stunning and beautiful…not even all the paintings in Rome! How come we haven’t heard more about it living where we do in the Midlands? However, without our lovely guide Isobel, we would have missed so much. With the aid of her trusty torch she highlighted the stories behind the paintings and their characters, and her knowledge of them was unbelievable! If you manage to have her as your guide you are in for a real treat. Thank you Isobel! Have to say though, that EVERYONE was so friendly, welcoming and helpful, thank you all. Cannot recommend this experience highly enough.
